JOB SUMMARY:  To help students learn subject matter and/or skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible men and women. To provide students with skills and knowledge commensurate with their ability and to provide all students with the opportunity to successfully obtain a valid high school diploma and Certified Nursing Assistant license based on criteria established by the local and state board of education and Maryland State Board of Nursing.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Registered nurse licensed to practice in Maryland.
  • Has a minimum of two (2) years experience in caring for the elderly or chronically ill in the past five (5) years, preferred.
  • A valid teacher certification or the ability to obtain in the field of assignment with a minimum of two (2) years teaching experience.
  • Additional certification requirements as set by MSDE or Board of Education.
  • Such alternatives and additions to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. 

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the location and at the times designated.
  • Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence (lesson plans) of preparation upon request of principal, principal’s designee, or curriculum coordinator.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintains  accurate, complete, and timely records as required by law, board policy, Maryland Board of Nursing and administrative regulation.
  • Is knowledgeable of and enforces school rules, administrative regulations, and board policy.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Effectively utilizes the instructional process to guide the learning process toward achievement of curriculum goals, and in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units,  and projects.
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students by developing and evaluating formative and summative assessments.
  • Provides student progress reports as required. 
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and, or the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom  behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  • Cooperates with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
  • Assists in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials. 
  • Accepts a share of responsibility for non-instructional duties as assigned.
  • Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with all students and their parents concerning both the board academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with others.
  • Provides for his/her own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.
  • Works collaboratively with local healthcare facilities to establish clinical placement for students to comply with Maryland Board of Health clinical hours.
  • Supervises and evaluates students in the clinical nursing setting and skills in the lab area.
  • The RN instructor has overall supervisory responsibility for the operation of the course.
  • Implements the Maryland Board of Nursing approved training program.

PAY & HOURS: This position is a 10-month position with a minimum of 37.5 hours per week.  This position is on the Caroline County Board of Education, Teacher’s Salary Schedule.  Placement on the appropriate salary lane/step will be based on knowledge, experience, skills and abilities related to this position.
