Job Summary -Under the supervision of the Maintenance Coordinator and the Director of Operations – this position is responsible for the preventive and routine maintenance of kitchen equipment and general appliances at school and county facilities. Also provides leadership and direction in this area of expertise.
Minimum Requirements of the Position
- Holds High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Ability to work well with your hands.
- Ability to perform general building and grounds maintenance.
- Demonstrated ability to operate and care for maintenance materials, tools and equipment.
- Available for occasional irregular working hours including short notice call in.
- Possess a valid Maryland driver’s license or is eligible to obtain one.
- Has good interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and productively as a team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities of Position
- Familiar with different types of equipment and how they function.
- Able to diagnose and repair commercial kitchen and general appliance equipment.
- Self-starter – ability to identify and respond correctly to problems.
- Repairs and maintains operating manuals and manufacturer’s recommendations/specifications.
- Perform preventative maintenance and repairs to food service kitchen equipment, including but not limited to warming cabinet, steam cabinet, commercial dishwashers, commercial gas & electrical ovens, ice machines, refrigerators & freezers.
- Troubleshoot equipment and make necessary repairs/replacements including but not limited to, electric controls, electrical wiring, and thermostats, appliances & cooking and refrigeration systems.
- Assume responsibility for looking up and ordering parts as needed (at the supervisor’s discretion) using a computer and keep inventory.
- Maintains a clean and organized work area, keeps tools and equipment in good working order and in place.
- Considerate and responsive to school building personnel. Explains situations, problems, solutions.
- Can accept instruction and direction and a willingness to provide input into decision-making.
- Able to lift 50 pounds.
- Able to work from a ladder.
- Adhere to all trade safety practices.
- Maintains regular, on-time attendance.
- Reacts to change productively and performs other duties as assigned.

PAY & HOURS:
This is a 12-month position with a minimum of 40 hours per week. Caroline County Board of Education, Support Services Personnel Salary Schedule. Placement on the appropriate salary lane/increment will be based on knowledge, experience, skills, and training related to this position. |
